5 Vintage Huichol Beaded Masks

What a beautiful collection of (5) vintage Huichol hand-carved beaded masks! The history of the Huichol people and their beaded masks are thought to go back to Pre-Columbian times. They predominantly live in the western central region of Mexico, in towns like Jalisco and Nayarit. Their culture is completely immersed in nature and they are, still today, dedicated to performing rituals to heal the Earth and make nature balanced, as they believe this to be their obligation to care for this planet. The mask designs incorporate elements of their unique mythology and cosmology (such as stars, or animals that represent strength and life). The strings or necklaces attached to the back of the masks (known as "Nagual" or "Spirit Cord") are are believed to connect them to their ancestors strength or power. This package includes a total of (5) masks, each measuring approx. 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" inches. All of the masks are in excellent condition and will make a beautiful display piece. (3) of the masks have a necklace attached to the back of the masks, while the other two masks have a string attached to the back.
